New York is in a whirl wind of events, emotions, and anxieties and injustices at this moment in time to say the least; and to be quite honest this entire year is just…off. NYC has not been the same since the official announcement of COVID 19 and the NYC lockdown. Parental fears and anxieties are at an all-time high. Many are out of work for good and or hours have been cut. Money is tighter than usual but there’s more time on our hands…
So, before this moment leaves us let’s take moment to appreciate the opportunities, we have to share quality time with our kidz.
Here are My Top 5 things to do before Outside Opens:
#5. Reminisce in the moment that you and your family has sat down without phones, no social media, tv off to discuss over dinner the events at hand. Didn’t have that moment? Well, make it happen.
Quality time is the most ever over looked tool parents have in their parental tool kit. use it!
#4. Get lost in a state park.
Be inspired by Hansel and Gretel and leave a trail of breadcrumbs or colorful stones to find your way back. Explore the different types of trees and plants. Discover new insects! Kidz love to explore, climb and get dirty. Normal parks are closed off and gated up. Why not take them to a place of nature and let their energy roam free!!
Here’s a list of open NYC parks that are near NYC….
#3. Night Beaching
No, I don’t mean skinny dipping I’m simply talking about going for a walk on the beach at night… with your kidz. Weird? Naaahh. Major bonus is if there’s a full moon. **Teachable moment** the moon controls the waves of the ocean didn’t know? Learn about it here.
Watching the moons glittering on the ocean is a memorable moment also a possible inspiring one. My kidz love going at night. Too often we as parents don’t pay much attention to the moon because we’re usually asleep or trying to. Exhausted from multiple hours of adulting and parental duties, we often view the moon as just a bedtime story infused with brown bears and miscellaneous items in a green room. Can we enjoy the moon for once? Maybe on the beach? with our kidz? Try it!! let me know how it goes.
Here’s are some beaches are near NYC easily accessible at night
Bring a blanket!! Temperatures drop at night!!
Bring Flashlights for a scavenger Hunt!
It’s FREE, it’s always open, your kidz will think it’s the coolest thing ever. 30 min ride to Staten Island and 30 min ride back = 1 hour of you being the coolest parent ever. BONUS!! you can ride as many times as you like.
You’re Welcome.
