Free Ice Cream Making-Demo and samples

July 17th

July, you may have heard, is National Ice Cream Month. Get a taste this Saturday, July 17 at 10am, when all three city locations host a free demonstration (yes, samples will be available). Learn how to make a pistachio torte, Mexican banana split and blueberry crema ice cream, all items on an extensive July-only menu that also includes goodies like pomegranate-mint chocolate chip ice cream with a Mexican fudge swirl, and tomatillo-lime ice. Family Camping

You dont have to miss out on one of summer’s sweetest pleasures. On Friday and Saturday nights in June, July and August, Urban Park Rangers will take families camping at predetermined parks throughout the five boroughs. Activities include alfresco cookouts, ghost stories and starlit hikes before participants retire to tents. Bring your own sleeping bags; all other gear is provided. Advance online registration required.

Carroll Park Kids’ Concert Series: Randy Kaplan

The Committee to Improve Carroll Park has lined up another summer of performers, food and crafts. Today, Randy Kaplan hits the stage. The kindie rocker has amassed his significant fan base through folk classics (“Go Tell Aunt Rhody”), well-adapted rock standards (“You Can’t Always Get What You Want”) and his own original compositions (“Loquat Rooftop,” a lovely ditty about a night spent eating delicious fruit on top of a Brooklyn apartment building).
