During this month’s complimentary fest, the Spanish Harlem institution honors the Quinceañera, a special party to for Latin American girls’ 15th birthday. Visitors can check out exhibits,make capias (handmade pins used as souvenirs at quinceañeras) learn how to play the Puerto Rican cuatro, learn West African dance moves, rock out with husband-and-wife singers Abbasubi, or get dolled up in hats, gloves and crowns for a glamorous photo-booth session. The Chelsea kids’ book store honors Earth Day with a garden of author readings, including Patrick McDonnel’s Me…Jane, Peter Brown’s The Curious Garden, Sean Quall’s Giant Steps to Change the World, Monica Wellington’s Gabby & Grandma Go Green and Brian Yanish’s ScrapKins Build-It Book. Ages 2 and up.
