When Disaster strikes

Did you feel that?

The ground shake?

I felt it.

The first thing that came to my mind was..wait  I’m in BROOKLYN this is not what I think it is?…right?………. WRONG!!!

The aftershock of  Virginia’s 5.9 earthquake reached  New York at approximately 1:50 this afternoon .  Even though it wasn’t very strong at all, I couldn’t help but to think if it was a real intense disaster like a Tsunami,Hurricane,Tornado or Earthquake what would me and my family do?   Because storing bottles of water and canned goods is not good enough.  There must be a PLAN. I remember months ago I was handed a flier from  a Ready.Gov representative on making a disaster kit. I have no clue  where it is now….sad, I know.   But I had a wake up call and this time I answered.

Here is what I’m gonna do:

Prepare a Basic Emergency Supply Kit

This means having your own food, water, and other supplies in sufficient quantity to last for at least three days.

Prepare a Family Emergency Plan

Your family may not be together when disaster strikes, so it is important to plan in advance: how you will contact one another; how you will get back together; and what you will do in different situations.

Practice the Plan

Go over the plan every 6 months to keep the ideas fresh in your families head or if a certain meetup place are  no longer around.

Ready Kids  is  a different section of the website that incorporates disaster readiness with fun. Click here for more info.

I hope this information is spread in the community. Email, text, call. Do whats necessary  to stay prepared and keep our community informed.
